  • Introduction

The attachment program at the School of Dental Sciences serves the primary purpose of providing students with valuable practical experience in the field of dentistry. It offers them the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge they have acquired in the classroom to real-life clinical situations. This practical experience is an integral part of their dental education, helping them to develop essential clinical skills and competence.

The goals of this attachment program include enhancing students' clinical proficiency in various dental procedures such as diagnosis, treatment planning, and performing dental treatments. Moreover, it emphasises the importance of patient care, encouraging students to provide dental services of high quality while upholding ethical standards and demonstrating compassion towards patients.

Professional development is another key goal of the attachment. It aims to instill professionalism in students, teaching them effective communication with patients and promoting teamwork among fellow students. Depending on the duration and structure of the program, students may have the opportunity to explore different dental specialties, broadening their understanding of dentistry as a whole.

Assessment is an integral component of the attachment program. It often involves evaluations and assessments to ensure that the students meet specific competencies and standards set by the dental school. Overall, the attachment program at the School of Dental Sciences plays a vital role in preparing future dentists to deliver high-quality oral healthcare to patients, bridging the gap between theoretical learning and its practical application in a clinical setting.

At the School of Dental Sciences, the attachment program offers students the opportunity to observe and actively participate (hands-on) in dental practices. This means students get to watch experienced dentists at work and also get their own hands-on experience in real dental procedures. It is a valuable way for them to learn by seeing and doing. This practical exposure is a critical aspect of their education, allowing them to apply classroom knowledge in real-world clinical settings.
