HISTORY

Our Dental Clinical Service at Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia commenced in September 2000. In the beginning of the service, it had two dental chairs and was located near to the A&E Unit Hospital USM, mainly to give basic clinical services to the staff of Health Campus and their family members. Treatment was given to nearly 20 patients per day.

Due to the huge flow of demands of services and number of patients, the services were moved to the new building in December 2002. We offer a full range of dental services given by the Dental Specialists, Dental Officers, Dental Students and Dental Nurses. The service is supported by the Dental Technologists, Radiologists, and Dental Surgery Assistants (DSA) and Medical Attendants. The number of patients seen currently is estimated at 90-200 patients per day.

The Maxillofacial Operations Theater (OT) began its operation on 26th December 2007 with cases done under local anesthesia. Now complex cases were also conducted under general anesthesia (GA) and attended by the Medical Anesthetists.

Satellite Dental Clinic has been established in the previous IPPT (Institut Perubatan & Pergigian Termaju) complex, Health Campus, which began its operation in August 2011. The clinic is equipped with 24 dental chairs and is now used by undergraduate dental students to conduct their clinical sessions.
