USM, KUBANG KERIAN, KELANTAN, 11 September 2025 – The Conservative Dentistry Unit, School of Dental Sciences (PPSG), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), received a contribution of five (5) units of Kerr Elements E-motion Endodontic Motor worth RM52,370 from Envista, EHC Commercial Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. in a brief ceremony held on 8 September.
The contribution reflects the commitment of EHC Commercial Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. in supporting academic development, high-quality clinical care services, and advanced research in the field of dentistry.
The endodontic equipment will be utilized not only in the teaching and learning sessions of dental students but also in enhancing the effectiveness of clinical treatments and strengthening scientific research outcomes.
This event is not only symbolic of the contribution made, but also reinforces academic-industry collaboration, which has the potential to open up more opportunities for future joint initiatives in dentistry and biomaterials research.


USM, KUBANG KERIAN, KELANTAN, 21 July 2025 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Dentsply Sirona Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. have further strengthened their collaboration through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA), focusing on enhancing undergraduate and postgraduate dental education and training.
The signing ceremony was officiated by the Dean of the School of Dental Sciences (PPSG), USM, Professor Dr. Norhayati Luddin, representing the USM Vice-Chancellor, and Associate Professor Dr. Nik Rozainah Nik Abdul Ghani, Deputy Dean (Academic, Career, Alumni, and Student Affairs), PPSG USM. Representing Dentsply Sirona Malaysia were Sales Specialist Lim Chun Hwa and Sales Representative Muhammad Yusuf Abdul Rashid.
According to Norhayati, the collaboration aligns with USM’s aspiration to expose students to the latest clinical technologies and techniques, thereby strengthening their practical skills in line with current industry demands and patient needs.
She highlighted that the donation of modern endodontic equipment by Dentsply Sirona enhances both clinical training and research at PPSG, enabling students to gain hands-on experience with industry-standard tools. Each undergraduate is required to complete at least four root canal treatments prior to graduation, with over 200 procedures carried out annually.
This collaboration supports Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), which ensures inclusive and quality education for all.
Dentsply Sirona’s Lim Chun Hwa welcomed the collaboration as a significant step forward in strengthening ties with USM and contributing to more efficient and high-quality dental care services. Also present at the ceremony were MoA coordinator Dr. Mohamad Syahrizal Halim and involved researchers.



USM and Universitas Hang Tuah, Indonesia Build Stronger Ties with Cooperation Agreement
KUBANG KERIAN, KELANTAN, 15 June 2025 – The School of Dental Sciences (PPSG), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) strengthened its global partnerships through the signing of a Cooperation Agreement with Universitas Hang Tuah (UHT), Indonesia, at USM Health Campus.
Professor Dr. Norhayati Luddin, Dean of PPSG, signed on behalf of the USM Vice-Chancellor, while Dr. Kristanti Parisihni, Dean of UHT’s Faculty of Dentistry, represented UHT. The collaboration, established since 2018, covers student and staff exchanges, joint research, seminars, workshops, and community engagement.
Prof. Norhayati emphasised the importance of expanding knowledge networks and academic impact, while Dr. Kristanti expressed hopes for enhanced research collaboration between Malaysia and Indonesia.
Also present at the event were Dr. Widyasri Prananingrum, First Vice Dean of Student Affairs and Collaboration, Universitas Hang Tuah; Dr. Norhayati Yusop, Deputy Dean (Research, Innovation and Industry–Community Engagement), PPSG USM; Dr. Nurhafizah Ghani, Acting Deputy Dean (Academic, Career, Alumni and Student Affairs), PPSG USM; and Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Azlina Ahmad, Coordinator of the USM-UHT Cooperation Agreement, along with researchers, lecturers, and officers from the School of Dental Sciences, USM, marking another milestone in advancing education, research, and community service.


USM – BREGO Strengthen Research Collaboration on Neuropathic Pain & Diabetes
KUBANG KERIAN, 16 January 2025 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), through the School of Dental Sciences (PPSG), signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with BREGO Life Sciences Sdn Bhd to strengthen research on neuropathic pain among diabetic patients.
The MoA was signed by Health Campus Director, Professor Dr. Shaiful Bahari Ismail, on behalf of the USM Vice-Chancellor, together with PPSG Dean, Professor Dr. Norhayati Luddin. BREGO was represented by Managing Director Dr. Danny Wong and Sales Manager Manson Oo.
Shaiful highlighted that 15.6% of Malaysian adults have been diagnosed with diabetes. Complications such as nerve damage, kidney failure, and heart disease are increasingly concerning. A 2017 study showed 34.5% of diabetic patients in Kuala Lumpur experienced nerve-related issues, but Kelantan-specific data is still lacking.
BREGO agreed to fund a study entitled “Prevalence of Neuropathic Pain and Associated Factors Among Diabetic Patients at USM Specialist Hospital.” This collaboration also supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Wellbeing.
According to Danny Wong, this partnership aims to transform neuropathic care and positively impact patients' lives. Also present were PPSG Deputy Deans, researchers, and the BREGO delegation.

PRODUCTION OF KELULUT HONEY-BASED EYE DROPS THE MAIN FOCUS OF RCA BETWEEN USM AND AESTECH PRO SDN. BHD.
USM, KUBANG KERIAN, KELANTAN, 13 August 2024 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), through the School of Medical Sciences (PPSP) and the School of Dental Sciences (PPSG), has signed a Research Collaboration Agreement (RCA) with Aestech Pro Sdn. Bhd. to develop kelulut honey-based eye drops aimed at treating dry eye syndrome.
The signing ceremony was officiated by Associate Professor Dr. Asrenee Abd Razak and Associate Professor Dr. Suharni Mohamad representing USM, while Aestech Pro was represented by Chief Executive Officer, Goh Xue Jin, and Research & Development Officer, Nafeesathul Misriya Abdul Aziz.
Dr. Asrenee highlighted that international studies have shown honey-based eye drops not only relieve dry eyes but also treat surface eye infections and corneal ulcers, with effectiveness comparable to antibiotic eye drops. The “Kelulut Honey Eye Drop” is expected to provide a natural, safe, and effective alternative for various ocular surface diseases.
Goh Xue Jin expressed pride in the collaboration, noting its potential to strengthen research expertise and deliver impactful innovations for Malaysians.
